Algebra2go®

The Algebra2go® Scholarship was established to give back to the student population that helped Professor Larry Perez earn the Orange County Teacher of the Year award in 2010. Early in his teaching career Mr. Perez began investigating student aversion to mathematics by purchasing lecture notes from his own students. Captured in the students’ voice, these documents provided a guideline for Mr. Perez to refine his pedagogical approach allowing him to better communicate with his students. They also provided him a clearer assessment of student need. It was the needs of the students that led Mr. Perez to extend his teaching philosophy beyond his classroom walls and develop the Algebra2go® website. This open educational resource hosted by Saddleback College continues to grow organically using student feedback as the mechanism of design. In this sense, the Algebra2go® website belongs to the students and therefore when Professor Perez received the monetary component for the Orange County Teacher of the Year award, he gave it to the students through this Osher endowed scholarship.
