Family of Gillian Marie Sabet

Words are inadequate to describe the beautiful, sweet soul that resided in Gillian (Jill) Sabet. She was a blessing and inspiration to her family and friends for 17 years. In most ways, she lived the typical, ordinary life of an American teen; she had regular ups and downs along with her fair share of struggles. Grief had an impact on her family during her early life; she was only four when her brother died from complications of childhood cancer. Growing up, she experienced the usual conflicts of adolescence, relished the social element of school, often grappled with her studies but always participated fully in every endeavor and aspect of her life, prioritizing her relationships.
Jill had an irrepressible energy, enthusiasm and sparkle that inspired others. Sometimes mischievous and fun-loving, sometimes ferociously passionate about a cause, always tender-hearted and eager to befriend and comfort, she radiated an inner light that drew others into its circle. She had an irresistible smile and an absolute zest for life. Often described as “carefree and happy”, she was more than that … because her life wasn’t always happy or care free. She chose to look for beauty and find joy in whatever circumstances she found herself, and in the people she shared her life with. She paid attention to others. She never held grudges. She took time to notice and complement unique and special qualities in a person’s personality, manner or appearance. She cultivated and nurtured friendships.
She dreamed of growing up to be a teacher and especially, a mother. She wanted to encourage and motivate young people to care about each other and the world, and to pursue adventure and joy in every-day life. “I love everyone,” are the last words she spoke and a challenge to those who wish to honor her spirit of youthful generosity, acceptance, compassion, energy and “light.”
The Gillian Sabet Memorial Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to students who wish to pursue a career that involves helping others and contributing to humanity in ways that would honor Jill’s vitality of spirit and legacy of kindness.
